Last Monday, I was honored to be invited to be a part of a fundraiser for the non-profit Headstand: Yoga Goes to School. Many of my friends from the yoga community were there to support this amazing and important cause.
This fundraiser was to mark the one-year anniversary of Headstand's successful pilot program at KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Summit Academy in San Leandro, California. KIPP is a national network of free college preparatory public schools that prepare students in underserved communities for success in college, and in life.
My friend Katherine Priore, the founder of Headstand, started this non-profit with a mission to bring a yoga program to underserved kids from K-12. The program teaches breathing exercises, yoga poses, meditation, and relaxation techniques. The students in the Headstand program thrive physically, academically, and emotionally.
I hope all of you will click on the link below to watch a short video and learn a little more about Headstand. Watching this video was what made it so real for me. You will see how this program has affected these young people in such a positive way.
